ExxonMobil Trials B30 Biofuel Made from FAME Distillation Residue
Energy firm ExxonMobil has completed a sea trial of a new B30 marine fuel blend made using FAME distillation residue.
The B30-VLSFO fuel was supplied to Wallenius Wilhelmsen's vehicle carrier Titus in Zeebrugge before the trial voyage, ExxonMobil said in a statement on its website on Tuesday.
ExxonMobil added that the B30-VLSFO blend was bunkered, stored and used without any operational issues.
According to the company, onboard filtration and purification systems performed normally and engine performance remained stable throughout the trial.
The company added that FAME distillation residue offers an alternative to FAME that is not currently in demand from other transport sectors.
"Importantly, marine fuels made with FAME Distillation Residue have a major advantage over FAME itself, as there is currently no competition for this material from other transport sectors," ExxonMobil said.
“This successful sea trial highlights a practical, cost-effective pathway for customers to reduce their lifecycle greenhouse gas emissions while maintaining operational performance,” Gideon Simmelink, Account Manager Marine Fuels at ExxonMobil, said.
ExxonMobil currently supplies a range of biofuel blends in the ARA region, the UK and Singapore.
