Teekay Corporation (Teekay) today announced that Teekay Offshore Partners L.P. (Teekay Offshore) has ordered two shuttle tanker newbuildings that will feature bunker-saving technologies and liquefied natural gas (LNG)-propulsion.

The conditional shipbuilding contracts were signed with Samsung Heavy Industries Co., Ltd. (SMI), and include the construction of two Suezmax DP2 shuttle tankers, with the option for up to two more vessels.

"These newbuilding vessels will be constructed based on the Partnership's New Shuttle Spirit design which incorporates proven technologies to increase fuel efficiency and reduce emissions, including LNG propulsion technology," explained Teekay.

The newbuilds are set to provide shuttle tanker services in the North Sea under an existing master agreement with Statoil ASA (Statoil) upon delivery in 2019 and 2020.
