Canada-based Methanex Corporation (Methanex) says it expects the delivery of the final in a series of methanol-powered vessels to its subsidiary Waterfront Shipping Company Limited (Waterfront Shipping) in November.

As Ship & Bunker reported in June, the 50,000 DWT Taranaki Sun, capable of burning methanol bunkers as well as traditional HFO and MGO, is on its maiden voyage to China.

"We expect these innovative new dual-fuel vessels to play an important role in paving the way for methanol as a clean burning marine fuel," said John Floren, President and CEO of Methanex.

In April, Knut Ørbeck-Nilssen, CEO at DNV GL – Maritime, said methanol bunkers offer a "promising" solution for those operating vessels within emission control areas (ECAs).
