Technology company Wartsila will supply dual-fuel engines and propulsion systems for the first floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) vessel being built for Delfin Midstream's export project off Louisiana, US.
The order, booked in the second quarter of 2026, covers three Wartsila dual-fuel engines and three custom-designed thrusters for the vessel being built by Samsung Heavy Industries, the firm said in an emailed update on Thursday.
The Port Delfin LNG project is located about 40 nautical miles off Louisiana's coast and will receive natural gas through existing pipelines.
An FLNG vessel is a floating facility that produces, stores and exports LNG directly offshore.
The thrusters will be the largest ever produced by Wartsila, the company said. They can be raised for maintenance from inside the vessel, reducing downtime.
The propulsion arrangement will also allow the vessel to disconnect and sail to a safe location ahead of a hurricane.
Wartsila will also supply an exhaust gas treatment system featuring selective catalytic reduction and Oxicat technologies.
Equipment deliveries are scheduled to begin in the third quarter of 2027, with the vessel expected to enter operation in early 2030.
