The Korean Register (KR) today announced that it will provide European Union (EU) Monitoring, Reporting and Verification (EU-MRV) services to Germany-based Briese Schiffahrts GmbH & Co. KG (Briese Schiffahrt).

"We are pleased that Briese Schiffahrt has chosen KR to be its partner for EU-MRV verification. This appointment demonstrates KR's growing status in the German market and is a clear endorsement of our technical abilities," said Michael Suhr, Technical and Commercial Director at KR.

"We remain committed to providing prompt, efficient technical and specialist services to all of our valued customers in Germany and look forward to supporting Briese Schiffahrt in this important work."

Under the agreement with Briese Schiffahrts, which was signed today, KR will provide verification services that include the assessment of monitoring plans and verification of carbon emission reports.

As Ship & Bunker reported in May, KR was authorised by Germany's national accreditation body Deutsche Akkreditierungsstelle GmbH (DAkkS) to act as a verification body for EU MRV.

"KR will continue to support its customers applying for Monitoring Plan Assesment," noted the company.

The MRV regulation requires shipping companies to submit ship-specific monitoring plans to verifiers for approval by the end of August 2017, with per-voyage monitoring set to start on January 1, 2018.
