Wärtsilä Corporation (Wärtsilä) today announced that it is set to supply the cargo handling system and cargo tanks for a new 3,000 cubic metre (cbm) capacity liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunker barge that is being built for LNG Shipping - a consortium between Victrol and CFT Corporation.

Specifically, the package being provided by Wärtsilä solutions includes the cargo handling system, the cargo tanks, and installation of the cargo arrangement onboard the bunker barge.

"Undoubtedly the award of this contract was based largely on Wärtsilä's vast experience and broad in-house know-how concerning gas systems," said Timo Koponen, Vice President for Flow & Gas Solutions at Wärtsilä Marine Solutions.

"Our strength throughout the LNG value chain is well known, and this new bunker vessel provides yet another link to this chain."

The barge is being built in Romania and will be outfitted in the Netherlands

Upon completion and delivery, the vessel is set to be chartered by Shell Western LNG B.V. (Shell), operating out of Rotterdam.

Last month, Shell Western LNG announced the arrival of a new LNG bunkering vessel Cardissa in Rotterdam.
