Canada-based Corvus Energy (Corvus) today announced that DNV GL has granted Type Approval to its Orca energy storage system (ESS) for use in battery-powered or hybrid vessels and offshore units.

The approval confirms that the latest Corvus' ESS generation complies with international standards, regulations, and applicable DNV GL rules.

"Corvus is pleased to receive Type Approval by DNV-GL for Orca Energy," said Neil Lang, COO of Corvus.

"Orca Energy was designed and built to exceed all industry standards and customer expectations. As a result, Orca has become the industry's number one choice for energy storage systems."

The Orca Energy ESS was awarded Type Approval Certificate No. TAE000026N, which is valid to August 2022.

Earlier this week, Corvus announced that it will supply its lithium ion based ESS to two platform supply vessels (PSVs) being retrofitted with hybrid power systems.
