Containerships plc (Containerships) says Containerships Nord, its first liquefied natural gas (LNG)-powered vessel, was launched on November 4 at the at Wenchong Shipyard in China.
The vessel's launch was followed by the keel laying of the second vessel in the series of four.
Containerships Nord is slated to begin operation during the first half of 2018, pending completion of sea trials.
As Ship & Bunker reported in April, Containerships was granted "substantial funding" from the European Union (EU) and the Nordic Environment Finance Corporation (NEFCO) to support the company's project to utilise LNG bunkers.
