LD Armateurs Launches Hybrid-Electric Service Operational Vessel
Maritime transportation firm LD Armateurs has launched a new hybrid-electric service operation vessel (SOV) for energy firm Vattenfall.
Launched on August 30 at ZPMC shipyard in China, Wind of Ocean is the first of two SOVs being built for Vattenfall, the firm said in an announcement yesterday.
It is due for delivery in 2027 and will support operations at the DanTysk and Sandbank offshore wind farms in the North Sea.
The 90 m vessel will combine diesel generators with a larger battery energy storage system, helping reduce fuel consumption, emissions and onboard noise.
Developed with SALT Ship Design, the SOV will accommodate up to 96 people and feature four azimuth thrusters and a double-ended design.
It will also be fitted with a motion-compensated gangway for safe transfers of technicians and equipment to offshore turbines.
