Shell Marine has launched a new Marine Integrated Lubrication and Expert Solutions (MILES) programme, Seatrade Maritime News reports.

"It is vital that Shell Marine is responsive to the challenges in the maritime industry where complexity and cost pressure is the new normal," said Jan Toschka, executive director of Shell Marine, told media at the Sea Asia 2017 conference on Tuesday.

"We are helping our customers to reduce their operational costs by monitoring lubricant consumption and providing advice about future volume liftings and ports. This offer, in particular when combined with our technical services, helps customers not only to generate cost savings but also reduce complexity on their side."

Shell Marine's new programme is said to feature new purchasing options, services, and a wide range of lubricant products in order to support customers' operational concerns.

Shell Marine is also reported to be working to respond to shipowners looking to optimise working capital and budgeting through various payment solutions such as "Flexi pay" or "pay as you consume" schemes.

"Shell Marine acknowledges that the marine industry needs smarter and more intelligent ways to work together and create synergies on both sides, for shipowners and suppliers," said Toschka.

In November, Shell Marine announced that it had updated its Shell Marine App to enable mobile reporting of customers' Shell Rapid Lube Analyst reports.
