General Dynamics NASSCO (NASSCO) delivered the Palmetto State to American Petroleum Tankers (APT) - the final ECO Class tanker constructed as part of an eight-tanker, dual-customer program.

"The Palmetto State and its sister ships are the most environmentally friendly tankers to enter the Jones Act trade," said NASSCO, noting that the tankers' ECO design provides a 33 percent increase in fuel efficiency and reduction associated emissions.

Kevin Graney, president of General Dynamics NASSCO, commenting on the final delivery, said: "the ECO Class tanker program pushed us to develop more efficient planning and production techniques, and fundamentally improved the way we perform every day."

In December, Ship & Bunker reported that Philly Shipyard, Inc. (PSI) had delivered American Endurance, the first of four next generation liquefied natural gas (LNG)-ready 50,000 DWT product tankers being built for APT by PSI.
