A tanker was struck by an unknown projectile off Oman on Wednesday, causing a fire that has since been extinguished, according to a British government agency monitoring maritime security in the region.

The incident occurred about 11 nautical miles west of Bukha at 01:45 UTC, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) said in a social media post yesterday.

Local authorities reported that the vessel was now at anchor, with all crew members safe, UKMTO added.

“On Oct 21, Kuwait-flagged oil product tanker M/T AL DASMA, carrying 21 Indian seafarers, was struck by an unknown projectile while transiting the Strait of Hormuz,” Sarbananda Sonowal, India’s Minister of Shipping, said in a social media post yesterday.

“All 21 of our Indian crew members, along with the rest of the crew are completely safe.”

Separately, UKMTO reported another incident off the coast of Iraq, where a tanker was struck by a projectile 30 nautical miles southeast of Al Faw on Tuesday.
