Global Marine Group Orders Hybrid Cable Maintenance Ship in Sri Lanka
UK-based Global Marine Group has ordered a new hybrid cable maintenance vessel as part of a phased renewal of its fleet.
The vessel will be built by Colombo Dockyard in Sri Lanka, with delivery scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2029, the firm said in a press release late last month.
Designed for fibre-optic submarine cable repair operations, the vessel will combine generators and battery systems to improve efficiency and reduce fuel consumption.
It will also feature azimuth thrusters, a hydrodynamically optimised hull, shore power connectivity and emissions-reduction systems.
“This new build is about investing ahead of demand, Simon Hibberd, CEO of Global Marine Group, said.
“It ensures Global Marine has the capability, capacity, and efficiency required to support the next generation of subsea cable networks while reinforcing our position as the market-leading provider of maintenance services worldwide.”
