ISO 22120:2026 - New Methanol Bunkering Specification Has Been Published
ISO has published ISO 22120:2026 this month, a new specification covering the bunkering of methanol-fuelled vessels.
The standard sets requirements for methanol bunkering transfer systems and equipment used to supply methanol fuel to vessels.
ISO 22120:2026 covers five key areas: transfer systems, operational procedures, risk assessment, safety protection and personnel training.
The specification provides requirements for the equipment and procedures involved in methanol bunkering operations, including measures intended to support safe fuel transfer and protect personnel.
The publication comes as methanol gains traction as a marine fuel, with the number of methanol-capable vessels and bunkering operations increasing.
The ISO 22120:2026, specificaiton is available on the ISO website here.
