Energy trader BGN has ordered four 93,000 m3 LPG dual-fuel very large gas carriers (VLGCs) from South Korean shipbuilder HD Hyundai Heavy Industries (HD HHI).

The agreement was signed in Istanbul on October 14, with deliveries expected in January 2030, the firm said in an announcement on Thursday.

The vessels will be capable of running on LPG as well as conventional marine fuels.

LPG remains a niche marine fuel, with its use largely concentrated in the gas carrier segment.

The order brings BGN’s total new dual-fuel VLGC contracts with HD HHI this year to 10 vessels, following agreements for four 90,000 m3 ships in April and two 93,000 m3 vessels in June.

Once delivered, the latest four vessels will increase BGN’s owned LPG VLGC fleet from 19 to 23.

The company currently operates more than 40 owned and chartered vessels.

Ship & Bunker had previously reported that BGN launched its first US retail bunkering business in July.
