Singapore-based shipping firm Ocean Network Express (ONE) held a naming ceremony for its newest container ship suitable for conversion to ammonia or methanol propulsion.

The 14,000 TEU ship, ONE Symphony, was named in a ceremony in Japan on October 22, ONE said in a LinkedIn post last week.

The vessel is one of the 20 ammonia/methanol-ready ships ordered by the firm.

Several shipowners have ordered alternative-fuel-ready vessels as they consider which fuels may become more widely used.

The design allows ships to enter service using conventional marine fuel while retaining the option to convert to alternative propulsion later.

However, relatively few ready vessels have been converted so far.
