VT Halter Marine to Build LNG Bunker Barge to Be Chartered to Shell

Singapore Technologies Engineering Ltd. (ST Engineering) says its U.S. shipyard VT Halter Marine Inc. (VT Halter Marine) has been awarded a contract by Quality Liquefied Natural Gas Transport, LLC (Q-LNG) to build an offshore liquefied natural gas (LNG) articulated tug and barge (ATB) unit set to be chartered to Shell.

As Ship & Bunker reported last week, Shell Trading (US) Company (Shell) today signed a long-term charter agreement with Q-LNG Transport, LLC (Q-LNG) for a 4,000 cubic metre (cbm) LNG bunker barge - the first of its kind in to be based in the U.S.

The VT Halter Marin-built vessel is expected to be be delivered in Q1 of 2020.

In a related development last week, Carnival Corporation & plc (Carnival) announced that Carnival Cruise Line signed an agreement that will see Shell NA LNG, LLC supply LNG bunkers to the cruise line's LNG-powered cruise ships in North America.
