Singapore-Registered Boxship Sinks After Strait of Hormuz Attack
A Singapore-registered container ship has sunk after being struck by an unknown projectile while transiting the Strait of Hormuz, while another sustained hull damage in a separate incident.
The GFS Pride was struck on Tuesday and GFS Giselle on Wednesday, the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) said in a press release yesterday
GFS Pride sustained damage and caught fire before sinking. All 21 crew members were safely evacuated, with no injuries reported.
GFS Giselle sustained hull damage but reached a safe anchorage under its own propulsion. All 22 crew members are safe, and no injuries have been reported.
There were no Singaporeans onboard either vessel, the MPA said. The authority is in contact with the vessels' management company and is monitoring the situation.
Both vessels are listed on the fleet page of Dubai-based Global Feeder Shipping.
