Maran Tankers Management Inc. (Maran Tankers) and Maran Gas Maritime Inc. (Maran Gas Maritime) on June 8 signed an agreement for four newbuild bunker-saving vessels from Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co., Ltd (DSME), with the option for a further four, World Maritime News reports.

DSME says the two 318,000 tonne very large crude carriers (VLCCs) under the order will feature the latest high efficiency engines and fuel-saving technologies.

The order is also said to include 173,400 cubic metre (cbm) liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers, which will utilise the DSME ME-GI engine.

The deal is said to be worth KRW 5.8 billion ($493 million), a total that will be bumped up to KRW 11 billion ($936 million) if the option for a further two LNG carriers and two VLCCs is exercised.

The LNG carriers are said to be slated for delivery in 2019, while VLCCs are are expected for delivery in first half of 2018.
