Cargo-Partner Cuts CO2e Emissions Through Hapag-Lloyd's Biofuel Shipping Programme
Cargo-Partner reduced its customers’ ocean freight emissions by 811 tonnes of CO2e in the first half of 2026 through a sustainable marine fuel programme with shipping firm Hapag-Lloyd.
The logistics company achieved the savings by using Hapag-Lloyd’s Ship Green solution, Cargo-Partner said in a statement on its website on Tuesday.
The solution allows customers to reduce the emissions associated with their ocean shipments through the use of lower-emission marine fuels.
It uses a book-and-claim mechanism, allowing verified emissions reductions to be allocated regardless of where the fuel is physically consumed within Hapag-Lloyd’s fleet.
This means that the shipment does not need to be carried on a vessel physically using the biofuel for the customer to claim the associated emissions reduction.
Between January and June, 259.46 mt of waste- and residue-based marine biofuel was used in Hapag-Lloyd’s fleet, resulting in CO2e reductions of 290.58 tonnes in the first quarter and 520.42 tonnes in the second quarter.
Cargo-Partner said the results reflect growing customer demand for practical ways to reduce emissions from global supply chains.
Cargo-Partner is a group company of Nippon Express Holdings.
