CMT's New Oil Analyser Enables Fast Onboard Lubricant Checks by Crews
Testing and monitoring technology firm CM Technologies (CMT) is set to launch a new compact oil analyser that allows ship crews to check lubricant condition onboard within minutes.
The WBS Analyser uses infrared spectroscopy to test a single system-oil sample for water, base number and soot, it said in an emailed statement on Monday.
The results can help engineers spot oil degradation, additive depletion and contamination from glycol or fuel without waiting for shore-based laboratory reports.
“Laboratory analysis remains the benchmark for comprehensive oil investigations and long-term trend analysis,” David Fuhlbrügger, Managing Director of CMT, said.
“The objective isn't to replace laboratory testing, but to give engineers reliable information while the vessel is still operating.”
CMT will showcase the WBS Analyser at SMM in Hamburg in September.
