Boxship En Route to Santos Catches Fire
A fire was reported onboard the container ship Espirito Santo Express last week while it was sailing from Singapore to Santos, with all crew members reported safe.
Seaspan, the vessel’s owner, confirmed that all crew were safe and accounted for, with measures being taken to bring the situation under control, Hapag-Lloyd said in an update on Friday.
APL Logistics said in an advisory that the vessel is chartered by Hapag-Lloyd and carries cargo from other carriers such as ONE and MSC.
According to reports, the vessel was abandoned and adrift in the South Atlantic following the fire.
“At this stage, the extent of the incident and any potential impact on cargo and vessel operations are still being assessed,” Hapag-Lloyd said in its update.
