d'Amico Launches Three New Eco Tankers
d'Amico International Shipping S.A. (DIS) Monday announced that it has launched three new eco-ships at Hyundai Vinashin Shipyard Co. Ltd (Hyundai Vinashin) in Vietnam, including one handysize and two medium range tankers.
The three ships, which represent a total investment of $104 million, are said to have been built using the same "eco-ship philosophy," intended to enable reduced environmental impacts, fuel consumption, and emissions.
"We have added three new assets of great value to our fleet, which is among the most innovative and updated on the international panorama," said Paolo d'Amico, Chairman of DIS.
"We are successfully working in partnership with a shipyard of the highest calibre, Hyundai Vinashin Shipyard, which guarantees us ecological, safe and exceptionally performing ships to offer our clients."
The 39,000 DWT Cielo di Salerno is noted to have been delivered on Friday, while the 50,000 DWT High Wind and High Challenge are slated for delivery in the first half of November and by the start of 2017, respectively.
DIS says that one of the tankers has already been placed on a three year charter to an international oil major, while the others will be placed on the spot market.
In August, DIS said that a big jump in bunker prices throughout 2016's second quarter were among a number of other factors that weighed on time-charter equivalent (TCE) earnings during 1H 2016.
