Ship Efficiency Project Global Industry Alliance Adds Rotterdam, Bureau Veritas as Members

An industry alliance aimed at making shipping more energy efficient has added two more member organisiations.

The Port of Rotterdam and class society Bureau Veritas have joined Global Industry Alliance (GIA) which already has some big hitters in its membership including Shell International Shipping & Trading and box ship operator Mediterranean Shipping Company, according to maritime news provider Lloyd's List.

GIA is part of the International Maritime Organization's Global Maritime Energy Efficiency Partnerships project supporting a number of countries in addressing emissions from ships.

Areas of interest for the alliance cover energy efficiency technologies, alternative fuels and digitalisation, the report said.
