Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. (K Line) has announced the implementation of its recently developed environmental management promotion system, known as the Drive Green Network (DGN).

"DGN is a system for strengthening our environmental management, setting environmental policies and targets that encourage their achievement through the efforts being conducted by each Group Company with internal audits, etc., and that aims to continuously improve environmental conservation activities through the PDCA cycle while ensuring environmental compliance throughout the entire K Line Group," explained the company.

In October, the system will be subject to an annual review at the group's environmental conference, with the acquisition of a Statement of Conformity (SOC) from a third party certification body expected the following month.

By April 2018 the system is expected to be in full-scale operation by all targeted group companies in Japan, as well as by some group companies overseas.

"As an environmental front runner, we will continue to aim for the realization of being a business that enables a greater number of people around the world to enjoy the advantage of marine transportation characterized by a lower environmental load and higher efficiency," said K Line.

As Ship & Bunker reported in June, K Line has also previously announced that it is working with Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd Group (KHI) on the development of K-IMS, an integrated vessel operation and performance management system that is intended to support "environmental preservation" and lower the company's bunker bills.
