The International Bunker Industry Association (IBIA) has appointed Captain Cliff Brand as its new Chief Executive, the organisation announced in a press release today.

Effective October 24, 2012 Brand will replace current Acting Chief Executive, IBIA board member and maritime arbitrator Trevor Harrison, who took on the part-time role following the departure of previous Chief Executive Ian Adams who resigned last year for family reasons.

IBIA announced in June it was seeking a new Chief Executive to head up both their British and Singapore offices.

Commenting on the appointment, Brand said, "Representing interests from across the entire marine fuels industry at the highest level is a hugely exciting challenge. With new legislation driving so many fundamental changes, there are many challenges ahead for the bunker industry."

"I look forward to making contact with members and developing the association."

IBIA Chairman Nigel Draffin said they were "delighted to have him aboard," and thanked Trevor Harrison for his hard work and dedication as interim chief executive.

"Cliff Brand brings a huge range of experience to IBIA and will be instrumental in developing and
servicing a membership which represents all sectors of the marine fuel business," he said.

With a 27 year career in the shipping industry, IBIA said Brand and has previously held positions including head of the Gibraltar Maritime Administration and Chief Executive of the Gibraltar Port Authority.
