Petróleo Brasileiro SA (Petrobras) Wednesday said its bunker supplies have been impacted by a spike in fuel demand by Brazil's thermal power plants, Reuters reports.

Petrobras says it has been contacting shipping industry clients, among others, in order to minimise resulting effects on bunkering.

Separate reports suggest bunkering has been impacted at all ports in Brazil.

The company says it is working to re-establish bunker and fuel oil supplies by sometime in September, and Ship & Bunker has contacted Petrobras to get clarification on the expected timeline.

As a consequence of the situation in Brazil, Aegean Marine Petroleum Network Inc. [NYSE: ANW] (Aegean) Wednesday said it has seen increased levels of interest at its physical supply station at anchorage in the bay of Algoa Bay (Port Elizabeth) in South Africa.
