Panama Posts Another Quarter with 1 Million+ MT in Bunker Sales as Q3 Bunker Volumes Rise 9%

Panama's bunker market has completed another quarter of impressive growth, according to the latest data from the Panama Maritime Authority (AMP), with official data showing sales for all products in 3Q 2017 were up almost 9% year-on-year to 1,059,429 mt.

After another month of growth in August, sales for all products in September rose 10% year-on-year to 373,831 metric tonnes (mt), comprising of 345,645 mt of fuel oil sales and 28,186 mt of distillates.

278,422 mt of the total was sold in Balboa on the country's Pacific coast, with the balance of 95,409 mt sold on the Atlantic coast with the port of Cristobal.

The average stem size in September was a typical 804 mt, with the 465 bunkering operations during the month the highest since the 502 recorded in April.

Year to date sales in Panama now stand atĀ 3,475,521 mt, up 18.6% compared to the same nine-month period in 2016.

Panama has now recorded overĀ 1 million mt in bunker sales in the last four consecutive quarters, and for 2017 looks well positioned to beat the 2016 annual sales total of just over 4 million mt.
