Crowley Maritime Corp. (Crowley) Thursday announced its petroleum distribution group, CPD Alaska LLC has completed its second acquisition of a southeast Alaska fuel distributor, Juneau-based Taku Oil Sales Inc. (Taku).

Taku runs a 2.5 million-gallon bulk fuel storage terminal, a deep-water marine fuel dock, and two service stations.

The leadership of the 50-year-old family-owned company is leaving the oil business, but Crowley will retain the Taku brand name and its 13 employees.

"The owners of Taku Oil Sales are very happy to have made this arrangement with Crowley," said Taku President Jeff Hansen.

"We feel like it is the best thing that could have happened for our employees and for the community of Juneau."

Crowley operates 22 fuel terminal in western Alaska and the rail belt, with more than 265 employees.

The company acquired Ketchikan-based Anderes Oil in July, saying at the time that the purchase of the 20-employee marine fuel distributor represented its entry into the southeast Alaska market.
