Engine manufacturer WinGD has expanded its dual-fuel engine production capacity in South Korea through a new licensing agreement with HD Hyundai Marine Engine.

The agreement covers WinGD's mid-bore X52 and X62 engine series, available in diesel and dual-fuel versions, the company said in an emailed statement on Friday.

The dual-fuel models can operate on LNG, ammonia, LPG, methanol and ethanol.

The deal will allow shipowners to access WinGD engine technology through another Korean manufacturer, particularly for bulk carrier and tanker newbuilds.

The two companies will also work together to improve engine costs and vessel integration while maintaining reliability and performance.

“This new agreement expands our ability to deliver main engines for high-volume vessel segments in Korea and enables HD Hyundai Marine Engine’s customers to select WinGD engine technology,” Peter Krahenbuhl, Vice President Product Centre at WinGD, said.
