Ningbo-Zhoushan Port Sets Zhejiang Green Methanol Bunkering Record
China’s Ningbo-Zhoushan Port has completed Zhejiang province’s largest single-ship green methanol bunkering operation, supplying around 5,500 mt of the fuel on August 23.
The operation was carried out at the Meishan Port Area for the methanol dual-fuel container ship Cosco Shipping Libra under the supervision of Meishan Customs, a branch of Ningbo Customs, according to China (Zhejiang) Pilot Free Trade Zone.
The bunkering set a new record for the amount of green methanol supplied to a single international vessel in Zhejiang province.
The operation was carried out by Zhongran Green Energy 85, China’s first dedicated methanol bunkering vessel, which entered service at Ningbo-Zhoushan Port in July.
Methanol is seen as one of the more practical alternative fuels because it can be handled using relatively familiar infrastructure compared with some other emerging marine fuels.
The container segment has led orders for methanol-fuelled newbuilds.
