Japanese Bonded Bunker Sales on the Rise

Sales of tax exempt bonded bunker fuel in Japan rose 3.7 percent year-on-year to 336,740 kiloliters (kl) (2.1 million barrels), Platts report quoting data from the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) showed.

After jumping 11.2 percent month-on-month in July to 365,294 kl (2.3 million barrels), from 328,407 kl (2.07 million barrels) in June, August sales represented a dip of 7.8 percent month-on-month as production slowed for the holiday season.

Imports of bonded bunker fuel were 17,687 kl (111,248 barrels) in August, up 18.5 percent year-on-year and 96.8 percent month-on-month from 14,920 kl (93,844 barrels) in July.

August's bonded marine diesel oil sales meanwhile almost halved to 4,003 kl (25,178 barrels) compared to the previous year, and down 21.8 percent month-on-month.
