Everllence and Hudong-Zhonghua Plan New Dual-Fuel Hybrid LNG Carrier
Engine manufacturer Everllence and China’s Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding have agreed to develop a 180,000 m3 LNG carrier using Everllence’s dual-fuel hybrid-electric propulsion system.
The two companies signed an engineering design agreement on June 5, Everllence said in an emailed statement on Monday.
The new design is aimed at improving the vessel’s efficiency and emissions performance as shipowners face tighter IMO carbon-intensity requirements.
Hudong-Zhonghua and Everllence have previously worked together on 10 LNG carriers fitted with dual-fuel diesel-electric propulsion systems.
“Nowadays, individual technology providers can only achieve marginal efficiency improvements,” Dominik Thoma, Global Manager LNG Cargo at Everllence, said.
“Accordingly, for bigger gains, shipyards and engine manufacturers need to work closely together."
Everllence said shipyards and engine makers need to work more closely to achieve bigger efficiency gains.
