Quarterly bunker sales volumes in Singapore for 1Q 2017 hit a record high of 12.65 million metric tonnes (mt) for all products, according to the latest preliminary data from the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA).

Highlighting the growth witnessed by the world's biggest bunkering port over the last decade is the fact that this best ever quarterly total is some 69 percent higher than the 7.49 million mt sold in 1Q 2007.

The 1Q 2017 total was achieved following March sales of 4,341,900 mt for all products consisting of a typical product mix dominated by sales of IFO380 (3,269.900 mt / 75.4% of the overall total) and 500 cSt (841,700 mt / 19.4% of the overall total).

The March performance also reinforces the notation that monthly sales of over 4 million mt are the norm for Singapore, having now achieved the feat in 12 of the last 16 months.

There were 3,589 calls for bunkers in March 2017, down slightly on the 3,672 for the period 1 year ago, but last month's higher average stem size of 1,210 mt lifted the monthly volume 7 percent year on year.
