China Gets Star Bulk Orders For Five More Fuel-Saving Bulkers
Greece's Star Bulk Carriers Corp. [NASDAQ:SBLK] (Star Bulk) says it has ordered five fuel-efficient bulk carriers from Chinese shipyards for a total of about $214.9 million.
The company ordered two 208,000 deadweight-tonne (dwt) Newcastlemax bulkers from Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Co. Ltd (SWS).
It also ordered two 61,000 dwt Ultramax drybulk vessels and one 209,000 dwt Newcastlemax ship from Nantong COSCO KHI Ship Engineering Co. (NACKS).
The two Ultramaxes are due for delivery during the fourth quarter of 2015, while the three Newcastlemax ships are expected in the first half of 2016.
Star Bulk also said it has chartered Capesize vessel Star Borealis for five to seven months at a gross daily time charter rate of $27,000.
The orders come on top of four other orders for fuel-efficient bulkers the company announced in July.
