Guangzhou Port Sees First STS Green Methanol Bunkering for Bulk Carrier
China’s Guangzhou Port has completed its first ship-to-ship (STS) green methanol bunkering operation for an international bulk carrier.
The bunkering took place at the Lantau Island anchorage, where bunker vessel Daqing 268, operated by China Shipping & Sinopec Suppliers, carried out the operation, the port authority said in an announcement on Tuesday.
The vessel supplied 1,021 mt of ISCC EU-certified green methanol to Green Future, a methanol dual-fuel Ultramax bulk carrier.
The methanol-fuelled bulk carrier was delivered to Japanese shipping firm NYK last year.
The operation is the first green methanol STS bunkering for an international bulk carrier at a domestic Chinese port.
Green methanol bunkering in China has so far mainly focused on container and ro-ro vessels.
