Port of Busan Moves to Establish ECA
Friday June 30, 2017
South Korea's Port of Busan is pursuing the designation of an emissions control area (ECA) to control sulfur emissions from ships, Splash 24/7 reports.
A proposal for the establishment of the ECA was submitted to the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries (MOF) by local city government and the Busan Port Authority.
The proposal calls for the ECA to be implemented ahead of a global 0.50 percent cap on sulfur in marine fuels set to enter into force in 2020.
As Ship & Bunker reported earlier this week, in an effort to reduce air pollution, the South Korean port authorities of Incheon, Busan, Ulsan, and Yeosu Gwangyang are set to install shore power.
