No Further Slick From MISC Tanker
MISC Berhad (MISC) said Tuesday in a press release no further slick has been seen emitting from the stricken tanker Bunga Alpinia following earlier reports of a "minor slick".
The incident followed a fire aboard the vessel on July 26, 2012 after it was reportedly struck by lightening while alongside the Petronas Chemicals Methanol terminal in Labuan, East Malaysia, although MISC said a thorough investigation is underway to determine the cause of the incident.
MISC said it would continue to deploy fresh booms around the vessel to ensure continuous protection of the environment and surrounding communities.
Some parts of the shoreline were said to be affected by the slick and that clean up efforts were underway, adding that the "situation is contained."
"Our teams and equipment are on site to mitigate any further eventualities," the company said in the release.
The company added that vessel cooling has enabled authorities and industry experts to board the vessel to undertake inspection works.
