Dubai-based marine fuel supplier and oil trader Translux-Aurelio has been steadily developing its presence in Senegal and its physical bunkering activities in West Africa.

The operation has served a broad range of vessel segments, including tankers, bulk carriers, container vessels, offshore support vessels and fishing fleets.

Growing Presence in Dakar

Central to the development of the Dakar operation has been the company's cooperation with Petrosen Trading & Services, alongside support from the Port of Dakar and local authorities.

Translux-Aurelio maintains a steady, full-time supply of VLSFO and LSMGO in Dakar, allowing it to accommodate both scheduled requirements and enquiries at relatively short notice. Additional low-sulphur fuel options can also be offered depending on vessel requirements, while HSFO is available on request.

"We are pleased with the progress we have made in Dakar since commencing physical supplies in September 2025," said Dmitriy Vettori, Executive Director of Translux-Aurelio.

"Starting a new physical bunkering operation requires time to build volumes and develop a regular customer base, and we are seeing steady growth in both."

"An important part of our offering is maintaining continuous product availability while keeping waiting times for deliveries very low. We are also able to accommodate bunker-only calls, giving vessels the option to call at Dakar specifically for fuel and continue their voyage with minimal delay," said Vijay Subramanian, Trading Manager of Aurelio.

"The cooperation with Petrosen, together with the support of the Port of Dakar and the local authorities, has been important in developing an efficient and reliable bunker supply operation."

Dedicated Delivery Infrastructure

Translux-Aurelio maintains a dedicated bunker barge permanently stationed in Dakar, with the capability to supply vessels both alongside and at anchorage.

The setup provides flexibility in scheduling deliveries and enables the company to efficiently service vessels calling at Dakar specifically for bunkers.

The operation can accommodate bunker requirements of up to 4,000 metric tonnes, subject to product grade and individual stem requirements.

Looking Ahead

Translux-Aurelio plans to continue growing its Dakar volumes and customer base while maintaining consistent product availability and efficient delivery times. Further growth will be supported by increased product availability and working capital capacity as the Dakar operation continues to scale.

"Dakar is strategically positioned for vessels trading along the West African coast and for longer-haul traffic moving north or south through the region, and we see considerable potential for the bunker market here to continue developing," Vettori said.

"Our focus now is to build on what we have established with Petrosen and continue increasing volumes while providing shipowners, operators and traders with a dependable physical supply option in Dakar."
