Construction Begins on New LNG-Fuelled Disney Cruise Ship
German shipbuilder Meyer Werft has begun construction of a new LNG-fuelled cruise ship for Disney Cruise Line.
The keel-laying ceremony in Papenburg marked the start of construction of the second gigablock for the Disney Believe, the fourth vessel in Disney’s Wish class, Meyer Werft said in a LinkedIn post yesterday.
The Disney Believe will use LNG for propulsion.
“The Disney Believe will be the fourth ship in the Wish class to impress with MEYER quality and meet Disney’s high standards for entertainment and facilities,” Andre Walter, CEO of Meyer Werft, said.
The global LNG-fuelled fleet is made up of 949 ships, with another 736 expected to join the fleet by 2030, according to classification society DNV data. Of the existing fleet, 35 are LNG-fuelled cruise ships.
