Oilmar Greece is marking its fifth anniversary in Athens with an event at Posidonia 2026 on May 31, 2026.

To mark the occasion, Ship & Bunker spoke to Country Manager Stella Lykouri, who says the timing captures something significant about how the operation has been built.

Built from Scratch

"When the Greek operation was first established, it began with a single individual in a modest office, building something from the ground up in one of the most competitive and volatile industries," Lykouri told Ship & Bunker.

"Nothing was given — every relationship, every client, and every step forward had to be earned through persistence and credibility."

Five years on and Lykouri says the contrast with those early days is significant: the team has expanded, the client base has broadened, and the experience accumulated has shaped the operation both commercially and professionally.

"It is not only about marking five years of Oilmar Greece, but about recognising the journey — the resilience, the growth, and the collective effort that define who we are today," Lykouri said.

The milestone also coincides with the wider Oilmar Group's own 10-year anniversary, an occasion which following a change in ownership last year the company has used as a springboard for its next phase of development, formalising its strategic direction across all 12 locations.

The Athens Advantage

Being based in Athens matters.

Greece is home to one of the world's largest and most influential shipowning communities, and Lykouri says that shapes everything about how the team works.

"Greece is not just a key shipping market — it is a global decision-making hub for shipowners," she said.

"Being based here gives us immediate access to market sentiment, faster alignment with client needs, and the ability to anticipate shifts early.

“In practical terms, Greece provides access, insight, and immediacy- and those are critical advantages in a market where timing and trust define success.”

Beyond the Price

That proximity shapes how the team operates day to day, with a hands-on approach that Lykouri says goes well beyond competitive pricing.

"Today, customers expect far more than a competitive price from a bunker supplier," she said.

"In a market defined by volatility and uncertainty, reliability has become the real differentiator — and ultimately, the foundation of long-term partnerships.

"At Oilmar Greece, our focus goes beyond winning a transaction. We position ourselves as a partner our clients can consistently rely on, both commercially and operationally.

"In this market, trust is built not when everything goes to plan, but in how you perform when it doesn't."

Looking Ahead

As for the next five years, Lykouri is clear on both the direction and the approach.

A key priority is expanding and diversifying the customer portfolio, with a particular focus on building stronger relationships with established, blue-chip counterparties.

That reflects also a broader objective of building a balanced, high-quality client base that supports sustainable, long-term growth, she notes.

"As the bunker market continues to evolve, our ambition is not only to grow, but to position Oilmar Greece as a consistently reliable, competitive, and value-adding partner within the global trading landscape," she said.

"The focus is on combining scale with quality — growing the business while continuing to deliver the level of trust, performance, and engagement that defines our approach."

Posidonia 2026

Oilmar Greece will hold a dedicated anniversary event on May 31 in Athens as part of Posidonia 2026.

“The purpose of the event is to bring together existing and prospective business partners, strengthen relationships, and further reinforce Oilmar’s presence within the global marine fuels and shipping markets,” Lykouri said.
