EC Greenlights CMA CGM and TotalEnergies LNG Bunkering JV
The European Commission has approved a joint venture between container shipping firm CMA CGM and energy firm TotalEnergies that will provide LNG bunkering services.
The deal did not raise competition concerns, pointing to the venture’s limited activities in the European Economic Area and the companies’ small combined market positions, the EC said in a press release on Friday.
The 50:50 venture was announced in July 2025 and is aimed at LNG bunkering in the ARA region.
The partners plan to deploy a 20,000 m3 LNG bunkering vessel in Rotterdam, with the vessel expected to enter service by the end of 2028.
The JV will leverage TotalEnergies's existing infrastructure in the ARA, including the 18,600 m3 LNG bunker vessel Gas Agility, in operation since 2020, which will be integrated into the new venture.
