Grain LNG Mulling LNG Bunkering at UK Terminal

Liquified natural gas (LNG) bunkering is being mooted for an LNG import terminal on the Isle of Grain in the UK.
Earlier this week Skangas said it would source LNG from the terminal located in the Thames estuary.
Grain LNG, the terminal's operator, is looking at developing LNG break bulk capacity for smaller vessels.
In addition, it is understood that the company is planning an LNG bunkering facility to come onstream from 2019.
To be accessible LNG needs to be in smaller parcels in order to be used as bunker fuel and to be handled by smaller ships.
From the start of 2020, the sulfur cap on conventional bunker fuel falls to 0.5%.
LNG is seen as a viable bunker fuel alternative to oil-derived fuel.
