Navios Maritime Partners Adds New Methanol-Ready Tanker to Fleet
Greece-based Navios Maritime Partners has taken delivery of an MR2 product tanker suitable for conversion to methanol propulsion.
The company has taken delivery of a 49,998 DWT vessel, Nave Harmony, it said in a LinkedIn post yesterday.
“The vessel is methanol-ready and equipped with the latest environmentally friendly technology to optimize energy efficiency and safety, therefore in line with our decarbonization culture,” the company said.
Last month, the company took delivery of an LR2 product tanker suitable for conversion to methanol or LNG propulsion in the future.
Several shipowners have ordered methanol- or alternative-fuel-ready vessels in recent years as they weigh up which alternative fuels are likely to gain wider adoption.
The approach allows owners to initially operate ships on conventional fuels while retaining the option to convert them to alternative-fuel propulsion at a later stage.
However, while a growing number of methanol-ready vessels have entered service, relatively few have subsequently been converted to methanol propulsion.
