A marine fuel barge at the Port of Antwerp-Bruges was damaged earlier this week by containers falling on it during loading operations.

The incident happened on Tuesday afternoon at the quay of the Antwerp Gateway terminal, a spokesperson for DP World, the owner of the terminal, told Ship & Bunker.

The container ship COSCO Hope and bunker vessel Mati were the ships affected.

"Four containers fell overboard and came to rest on a bunkering vessel, resulting in solely material damage," the DP World spokesperson said.

"A minor on-deck oil leak occurred shortly after the incident and was promptly contained and cleaned up.

"The affected containers have been removed and precautionary measures implemented.

"The situation is being managed in close coordination with the relevant authorities and agencies. Terminal operations are continuing as normal."
