Axpo Completes First LNG Bunkering of Cruise Ship at Naples
Energy services firm Axpo has completed the first LNG bunkering operation for a cruise ship at Naples in Italy.
The company supplied LNG to the cruise ship Sun Princess, operated by Carnival Corporation, Axpo said in an email statement on Tuesday.
The ship-to-ship bunkering took place on Sunday using the LNG bunkering vessel Green Zeebrugge.
Carnival Corporation said wider access to LNG at key ports would support its emissions reduction efforts.
The operation involved collaboration between Axpo, the Port System Authority of the Central Tyrrhenian Sea, Terminal Napoli and the Port Authority of Naples.
Axpo said the Naples operation forms part of its broader strategy to expand small-scale LNG and bio-LNG infrastructure across Italy and Spain.
"This operation is further demonstration that an alternative fuel infrastructure is truly up and running," Daniele Corti, Head of Small-Scale LNG at Axpo, said.
