New Tanker Attack Reported in Strait of Hormuz: UKMTO
A tanker was reportedly struck by an unknown projectile while transiting the Strait of Hormuz yesterday, a British government agency monitoring maritime security in the region said, citing a third-party source.
The attack was reported at 17:50 UTC on Thursday and resulted in a fire onboard the vessel, the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) said in a social media update today.
“Crew have been reported safe, damage assessment and environmental impact is unknown at the time of the report,” UKMTO added.
The attack comes after three other vessel incidents reported by UKMTO on September 30.
The incidents took place on September 29 and involved an LNG tanker and two other tankers.
All three vessels were reportedly struck by unknown projectiles while transiting the Strait of Hormuz.
The latest attack comes as tensions remain high in the region, with a number of vessels coming under attack in and around the waterway in recent days.
