Gothia Tanker Alliance (Gothia) has announced that Thun Tankers has placed an order for four bunker-saving newbuild 17,500 DWT IMO II product/chemical tankers.

"Focus on energy efficiency, sustainability, new regulations and customers' needs has been key in the development process," said Gothia.

"The vessels that will be built to the absolute latest design are expected to be delivered between April 2019 and January 2020."

The vessels are set to be built at China's Avic Dingheng Shipbuilding Ltd, and will be managed by Furetank Chartering upon delivery.

As Ship & Bunker reported in October, Gothia Tanker Alliance already had six "state of the art" modern tanker vessels on order, with Furetank set to own three of the vessels, Älvtank to own two, and Thun Tankers to own one.

In September, Wärtsilä Corporation (Wärtsilä) announced that it would provide solutions packages to the first four newbuild "environmentally friendly tankers," which are set run mainly on liquefied natural gas (LNG).
