Gothia Tanker Alliance (Gothia) Wednesday announced that Furetank Rederi AB (Furetank) and Rederi AB Älvtank (Älvtank) have added two more newbuildings to their order list, all of which are set to feature liquefied natural gas (LNG) propulsion capability.

Together with the previous order, Gothia Tanker Alliance now has six "state of the art" modern tanker vessels on order, with Furetank set to own three of the vessels, Älvtank to own two, and Thun Tankers to own one.

As Ship & Bunker reported in September, Wärtsilä Corporation (Wärtsilä) announced that it would provide solutions packages to the first four newbuild "environmentally friendly tankers," which are set run mainly on LNG.

The two newly ordered vessels will be built according to a FKAB and Furetank developed design, and are expected to provide a nearly 50 percent CO2 emission reduction.

"The vessels fulfill the Tier III rules, have dual fuel/LNG propulsion including LNG in port consumption, LNG for Inert gas production, power production with floating frequency, battery backup (UPS) for all vital functions to minimise use of auxiliary engines, installed ballast water cleaning system, ice class 1A and Alternative Propulsion System," explained Gothia.

The ships, which will be commercially managed by Furetank Chartering in the Gothia Tanker Alliance, are slated for delivery during 2018 and 2019.

Yesterday, Ship & Bunker reported that Bomin Linde LNG GmbH & Co. KG (Bomin Linde LNG) has signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) with Furetank detailing a long-term cooperation for the supply of LNG in the Baltic Sea region.

Earlier this month, Thun Tankers announced that it had ordered four new fuel efficient, next generation, "sustainable" chemical tankers through Erik Thun AB (Erik Thun).
