Qatar Gas Transport Company (Nakilat) has taken delivery of a dual-fuel LPG/ammonia carrier from HD Hyundai Samho.

The 88,000 m3 vessel, Energy North, was named at the South Korean shipyard on September 30 and is scheduled to enter service tomorrow, Nakilat said in an announcement yesterday.

Energy North is the first vessel delivered under Nakilat’s newbuilding programme, which comprises two LNG carriers and four LPG/ammonia carriers.

The vessel is designed to transport both LPG and ammonia and is equipped with dual-fuel propulsion.
The vessel is also suitable for conversion to ammonia propulsion in the future.

LPG remains a niche alternative marine fuel, with its use concentrated almost entirely in gas carriers.
